Every week I write and article for the Euro Weekly News, an English-speaking newspaper covering all the major resorts of Spain and the Balearics. You can pick up a copy on a Thursday ... or read it here every week. |

Of course we should all boycott the Beijing Olympics. Do you not find it at least a bit disturbing that the good old UK, a country all but sinking under the morass of 'Uman rights, should be a supporter of the biggest sporting event of the world being held in a country with basically no human rights at all? The sheer hypocrisy of it is simply mind boggling. Mind you only a few degrees of intelligence insulting away from condoning South Africa's staging of the World Cup. A recent letter I received from there accused the countries government of turning a blind eye to 'white genocide'. When you consider most of it comprises of ex ANC members it's not hard to disbelieve it! It is of course all about power and money (isn't it always?) It doesn't surely take too high an intellect to realize the west needs a trade and non aggression future with China and South Africa continues to be the gold and diamond mining centre of the world. When are the people going to realize, that when our esteemed leaders enter the realm of money and power, they harbour no scruples at all? If they can't appease and kowtow their way in to another countries good books, then they embark on their annihilation. Nothing's really changed since the days when Neanderthals roamed the earth. Weapons and communications have simply become more sophisticated that's all. Saudi Arabia is another prime example. Do you honestly think that were that country not awash with oil and a strategic military 'jumping off point' (as Gibraltar and Malta used to be) the west would even bother with the place? Is it not also perfectly clear that were oil not a modern day necessity and subsequently the countries it now flows beneath all but powerless, the leaders of the west would have anything to do with them at all? Of course they wouldn't. I say we should most definitely boycott Beijing and immediately reverse the decision to allow SA to stage the World Cup. Should this not happen, then certainly in the case of China we should make stringent plans to uncover any artificial means to enhance competitors performances. Believe me the Chinese will stop at nothing to succeed and succeed well (although frankly a Chinese sprinter is a somewhat unlikely scenario!). They will view this with all the same propaganda motives that Hitler did in 1933. A way of showing the West that their 'Tao' is the correct one. It is in fact a way that were it adopted by all, would set the human race back a thousand years BC. When the iron hand of the rulers gripped their people in a vice of fear and servitude. Whatcha mean, sounds like Ken Livingstone's effect on the drivers of central London? I dunno, can't I get you all get serious for one single moment? Ha! If we didn't laugh it would make us all cry wouldn't it. Why hasn't he mentioned our esteemed church leader Rowan Williams yet you may ask? Well it's all been said really hasn't it? This is the man who some weeks ago said we should all be 'more welcoming to immigrants?' I'm sure he means well, but unfortunately is yet another example of the naivety of a baby soul elected to an old soul position. The only heartwarming outcome to me is that his remarks may well have finally woken the British people up. The British are a complacent lot, but when severely trodden on, turn, and turn decisively - as many a foreign power has discovered in the past. Please God the politicians now begin to take notice of those who still keep them in their positions. And if they don't, let them soon be replaced by those who will. 'Five Arabic prayer calls echoing across dear old England on a Friday, are the same as church bells on a Sunday?' Give us a break. Have a good week. Try to keep some common sense to the fore.
