Every week I write and article for the Euro Weekly News, an English-speaking newspaper covering all the major resorts of Spain and the Balearics. You can pick up a copy on a Thursday ... or read it here every week. |

At the time of writing the Mc Cann's little treasure Madeleine has still not been found. Her monstrous abductors have managed in one foul despicable act to cause hearts to become leaden weights in the bosoms of millions. Torn from the safety of her bed this precious mite was a victim of the horror that has frightened children for generations - the dreaded 'Bogey Man'. How can any of us even begin to contemplate her terror, as still shrouded in slumber, she was thrust out of that window and carried off into the night? All we can do is pray it was not a ring of despicable paedophile low life that perpetrated this horrendous act and at least someone giving care and love. Unfortunately, as time goes on, I feel the latter more likely. In those circumstances, almost too heart rending to contemplate, let us hope that at least her little uncomprehending brain has closed down and her pain become numbed by the shock and unreality of her situation. Were her abductors brought to the dock, there is of course no punishment in any law book that would suit this particular insult to our human existence. Personally I would sentence them to no more than twelve months. Not long enough? Ah, I think it would be more than adequate. You see I would put them in the toughest female prison in the land - with no solitary facilities and very lax supervision. On second thoughts I would think a couple of days would suffice. In the meantime pray for the parents and loved ones of little Madeleine. May they somehow find the strength to get through this almost unimaginable horror. Keep your eyes peeled; the little tot could be anywhere. Give your own children an extra little hug or two. Make sure they are as secure as possible in their beds. And thank the Lord it is not your little one causing misery, tears, and helpless frustration to millions. These lowlifes who do trade in human misery will of course stop at nothing to carry out their evil acts. Some years ago there was an incident in a Palma department store. A child had gone missing. The minute the distraught parent reported it the order went out to immediately close and secure all the exits. The abductors were subsequently apprehended as they tried to leave. In the short time they had snatched the child; they had dragged her into the loo, drugged her, dressed her in different clothes, put a wig on her, and sat her in a pram. If it hadn't been for the remarkably efficient reaction from the store they would probably have got clean away with it, tearing more lives to shreds in the process. For heavens sake be vigilant at all times. Sad and as uncomprehending as it is there are those among us who feel nothing for the anguish and pain of others and are satisfied only by the manifestation of their own evil ends - let us all make it as difficult as possible and hope that one day the whole despicable bunch of these monsters rot and fester in the bowels of eternal hell. Someone who has the completely opposite approach to our children is Mallorca's Robert Winsor M.B.E. Once again this remarkable man and his ever loving spouse Maria have broken all records with their celebrity golf annual tournament. This year they raised the astonishing sum of over 286000 Euros for the handicapped children of Mallorca. A veritable hosts of congrats to you both and indeed all who took part in this most worthwhile event. Proud to be a small cog in this constantly growing wheel of love and generosity. Also my congrats to the organisers and participants in this years Calvia council's Europe day celebrations. 25000 plus attended this year, making Calvia's event the second largest annual festival on the island. Well done all. Who knows next year you may even receive local press coverage! Till the demise of the next seven, keep positive, keep praying and whatever ya do, always keep the faith Love Leapy |
