Every week I write and article for the Euro Weekly News, an English-speaking newspaper covering all the major resorts of Spain and the Balearics. You can pick up a copy on a Thursday ... or read it here every week.

One of the problems of writing a column on a weekly basis is that by the time the piece is published it can be old news. Bearing this in mind, by the time you read this Saddam Hussein could already have been strung up and sent to whatever 'paradise' he considered awaited him - and why not? The man had been found guilty of mass murder in a very lengthy, very public, and undoubtedly fair trial - so why wait? This area is actually one of the few that find me totally in accord with Mid East traditions. If this trial had taken place in the UK, we would now be looking at years of appeals and counter appeals, and even possibly a total retrial. Human rights would be screaming from every available orifice, and through it all the lawyer's, solicitors, and legal public purse pilferers, would be making yet another type of killing, and once again all at the long beleaguered taxpayers expense.

During my stay in Saudi Arabia, as I sat watching a bit of local T.V. all at once the ancient soap left the screen and was replaced by a completely different scenario. The scene that now unfolded (all now obviously shot with some form of hand held camera} was that of a bedroom, filled with men. Some were in police uniform, some in traditional 'garb', and others in ordinary everyday western attire. All then began to act out some form of 'event'. With my somewhat limited Arabic, I slowly began to get into the 'plot. The two center characters were Filipino's who, having presumably been apprehended, were now enacting out what had supposedly taken place in this particular bedroom. All those present appeared to have their own 'parts' to play. One man played out the role of the 'husband', who, on being 'attacked' by one of the accused, went through the motions of being bludgeoned to the floor, where he lay presumably dead. The two then turned their attention to the 'wife', also played by a man. After throwing him/ her on to the bed, the first attacker then simulated sexual rape. The second then took his place on top of the victim. From his actions the viewer deduced that he had not in fact been able to carry the act through. He then proceeded to show how; presumably in his anger and frustration, he had ultimately strangled the woman. Finally the accused pointed out the door through which they had apparently made their escape. The two were subsequently handcuffed and placed in front of the camera, where they proceeded to make a full confession of their crimes. The next time they were 'on the box' was the following Friday morning when they were both beheaded in the public square. Justice thoroughly done, and most definitely 'seen' to be done. Now before you all scream 'barbarism', I'm not condoning public televised decapitation, simply that when the guilt of a party is so obvious, dragging out the whole thing, often for years, is a total waste of time and public money, once again making even more filthy lucre for the already well heeled legal parasites that infest British society. Until we get rid of these people, most of who couldn't give a monkeys whether their clients are guilty or not, the longer cases will drag on, filling the jails with remand prisoners, allowing bailed prisoners, with unending cases pending, to walk the streets committing even more crimes. And as usual making laughing stocks of us all. S'there!

In the light of the utterly unacceptable 'alternative' Christmas message would it be out of order to broadcast an alternative Eid message this year? What! Are you kidding? Risk the wrath of 'believers' worldwide? No chance.

No change there then?

Still keeping the faith? 'Ard 'ennit?
