Every week I write and article for the Euro Weekly News, an English-speaking newspaper covering all the major resorts of Spain and the Balearics. You can pick up a copy on a Thursday ... or read it here every week. |

Hopefully, by the time this gets into print, an outcry will have been heard so loudly throughout the world the whole disgraceful debacle will have been totally erased from any future curriculum and the perpetrators given some form of severe just deserts. I'm referring to the so called 'artist' Guillermo Habacuc Vargas, who decided in the name of 'art' to chain a starving stray dog to a wall during a Costa Rican exhibition and leave it in agony without food and water until it finally expired over a week later. The cruelty of this particular exercise simply beggars belief. What is even more disturbing is the fact that although hundreds of people attended the gallery not one lifted a finger to intervene in this poor animal's plight. To make matters even worse, the local arts council have apparently decided it is in fact art and given him permission to repeat the whole disgusting exercise at a future exhibition. Well, may I suggest Mr. Habacuc is himself chained to the wall of the gallery and arrangements made to keep the exhibition open for as long as it takes for him to experience his own agonizing death by starvation? Perhaps he should also be joined by those members of the 'council' who have decided to give him a free rein to torture another animal to death. Would it not be a wonderful sight to see them all chained up in a row, begging for food and water while a nonchalant public file by peering at their programs and unconcernedly discussing the 'artistic merit' of their plight? Click on to this mans name and, if you can bear it, watch the whole sickening event for yourselves. I know that you will then link onto the petition organized to prevent this almost unbelievable situation being allowed to develop again. I do see that at this time over a half a million have already 'hit' the site and are hopefully taking appropriate action. Let us hope that all who peruse this piece decide to do the same. In the name of human decency it is the least we can all do. Talking of hits the internet truly is a remarkable advent of this modern age. Some six months ago my 'webmaster' put a clip of me performing a TV appearance of Little Arrows back in '69. Almost unbelievably over 18,000 people have tuned in to have a 'blimp'. You're all around the bend I tell you. Personally I find it all a bit disconcerting. Well, how would you like to see yourself with all that great mop of hair framing an unlined 'boat race' and facing a world without a single care? Ha! A year after that I was ensconced in a padded cell clad in a straight jacket! You don't believe me? It's in the book - or at least it will be if I ever manage to complete part three! Couldn't help a chuckle at the priest who sat in a chair attached to 1000 gas filled coloured balloons. The last sight of him was disappearing over the horizon as a high wind took him out to sea. Let us all hope his God is with him and he is duly delivered back safe and sound. The world needs its characters of this ilk. What it doesn't need are 'artists' of Habacucs twisted and callous way of thinking. Get those signatures registered. Delighted to report my latest biopsy came up negative. With his hernia fixed and not facing a life threatening illness the old Leaper is now ready for just about anything. Bring on 'Les Girls'. The problem with being my age, chatting anyone up any gal under the age of fifty makes me feel like a pedophile - ah well, what can ya do? One thing you can do this year is actually book places at Robert Winsor's celebrity golf charity dinner. This is due to the fact that it is being held at Mallorcas Casino thereby allowing many more places to become available. A fabulous show on a wonderful fund raising night for the less fortunate children of Mallorca. But get yer finger out, this unique opportunity will be the last in its present form and tickets are going like the proverbial hot ones. Delighted and proud to have been a small cog in this vast piece of fund raising machinery that over the years has raised more than a million Euros through the hard work of Robert and Maria and the unwavering generosity of its patrons and supporters. For all info visit the Robert Winsor charity golf web site. See ya at the gig. Have a glorious week. Try to help those less fortunate, and whatever ya do. Always keep the faith. Love Leapy. |
